Biography

Dr. Prestia PhD RN NE-BC FAAN is an accomplished nurse educator and author with over 60 articles focused on the practice of nurse leadership. She published her first book entitled Becoming the Chief Nurse The Science, The Story, The Truth in January 2024. She has contributed to text books, specifically writing about the courage it requires to be an authentic nurse leader. Some of her most recent article topics include the concept of global "friendshoring," preserving time, talent and trust, caring as a nursing leadership competency, moral injury and moral distress.

Her work is informed through operational experience as a nurse executive. During her time in practice, she had proven to be invaluable member of the health care team She successfully lead inter-disciplinary teams which improved patient outcomes in the areas of quality, safety, patient satisfaction and fiscal stewardship. Dr. Prestia has worked to develop nursing leadership by valuing employee contribution. She is the Past- President of the Association for Leadership Science in Nursing #ALSN. Her service to this organization has spanned over 6 years. She has presented her research at local, national, and international conferences.

Currently, Dr. Prestia educates, guides, and supports nursing leadership students through her affiliation with Florida Atlantic University, Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. She is a consultant at the Marian K. Shaunessey Nursing Leadership Academy at Case Western Reserve University. Dr. Prestia understands the challenges and sees the potential for positive culture development when nurse leaders build caring relationships and utilize evidence-based practices.

Dr. Prestia is an editorial board member for Nurse Leader journal. Dr. Prestia is a peer reviewer for the Journal of Nursing Administration. In 2024 Dr. Prestia was inducted as a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing. Earlier that year, Dr. Prestia was inducted into the Florida Atlantic University Alumni Hall of Fame. In 2015 she was recognized as Florida Atlantic University鈥檚 Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Prestia holds a deep respect for healthcare leaders and hopes to assist and mentor a new generation, as they work to improve performance and ultimately patient care
