The recently received a $1 million gift from longtime Boca Raton residents Norton and Anita Waltuch to support student scholarships. The lobby of the Schmidt College of Medicine鈥檚 main building on the Boca Raton campus will be named the 鈥淎nita and Norton Waltuch Lobby鈥 in their honor.
Since the 1970s, Norton Waltuch has been a member of all commodities futures exchanges, including Chicago Board of Trade and CME Group.聽He also served as vice president and chief metals trader for Conticommidty Services, Inc. and is a former floor broker at Comex.
We are tremendously proud of the success of the Schmidt College of Medicine. It was ranked No. 24 in the nation in the 鈥淢ost Diverse Medical Schools鈥 category by U.S. News & World Report, which is based on the percentage of underrepresented minority students. The College received more than 6,000 applications for the 66 spots in our Fall 2021 class, up 61 percent from last year. This increase in applications is a national trend, and a wonderful sign that aspiring physicians were not deterred by the stress of COVID-19, but in fact they are eager to do their part in the fight against the devastating virus and other conditions.
We truly appreciate this generous gift from the Waltuchs. In addition to providing our hard-working medical students with financial assistance, it will further the Schmidt College of Medicine鈥檚 mission of training future generations of diverse physicians to meet our nation鈥檚 growing needs. Thank You, Norton and Anita Waltuch!
