Congrats to Men’s Basketball on a Great Season
Sunday, Mar 17, 2024
The Florida Atlantic men’s basketball team’s quest for the American Athletic Conference title came to an end last night as the No. 2 seed team fell to Temple, 74-73, in the semifinals of the conference tournament. Throughout the regular season, which marked the team’s debut in the AAC, the Owls excelled with a 14-4 conference record and are now 25-8 overall.
The Owls racked up several accomplishments this season, including being ranked in the AP Top 25 for many weeks, winning the 2023 ESPN Events InvitationalÌýand playing in the three most-watched games by an AAC team. In total, more than five million viewers watched the Owls’ televised games during the 2023-24 regular season. The team enjoyed tremendous in-person support as well, playing in front of sold-out crowds at every home game in Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.
Several players also earned individual accolades for their abilities on the court. Johnell Davis was named the Co-AAC Player of the Year and was unanimously selected to the All-Conference First Team. He has been nominated for several national awards as well. He is a Top 10 finalist for the Jerry West Award, a Top 20 finalist for the Wooden Award, a member of the Top 30 Naismith Midseason Player of the Year watch list, and a member of the Oscar Robertson Trophy All-America watch list. Additionally, Alijah Martin and Vlad Goldin were named to the American’s All-Conference second team.
I am incredibly proud of our players and coaches for their many successes. It has been a thrill to celebrate the team’s triumphs with the Florida Atlantic community — but hopefully the season is not over yet. We will find out this evening if the team will advance to the NCAA Tournament. The tournament bracket will be revealed at 6 p.m. ET on CBS.
Go Owls!
