Jetsunma, was one of the first western women to be ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist nun. She is recognized as a powerful proponent of the universal need of individuals to find their voices so that all human beings can "realize their full potential."听Jetsunma has become an increasingly sought-after speaker; and on this rare visit to the United States, she will welcome the new year with an inspirational message of peace, courage and the wisdom of staying connected to yourself
Jetsunma, author of Into the Heart of Life, left England for India at the age of 20 to pursue her Buddhist training and in 1964 became a Tibetan Buddhist nun. After 12 years of study, she sought complete seclusion, spending the next 12 years in a cave. In 1999, Jetsunma was encouraged to start a nunnery for young Buddhist girls, and construction began on Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery, a place that now welcomes more than 70 nuns. In recognition of her spiritual achievements as a nun and her efforts in promoting the status of female practitioners in Tibetan Buddhism, she was given the rare title of Jetsunma, which means Venerable Master.
听"Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is one of the most genuine and accomplished of western practitioners," said Jack Kornfield, author of Path with a Heart. "Her voice is simple and pure, wise and true."听
