Colonizing and De/Re-Colonizing Nations: Communist Practices 25 Years Later

Florida Atlantic University's Peace Studies Program in the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters and the 国产自拍 Peace, Justice, and Human Rights Initiative present the international听 conference titled "Colonizing and De/Re-Colonizing Nations: A Research Inquiry into Communist Practices 25 Years Later." The conference will take place on Thursday, March 12 and Friday, March 13 in the Engineering Building East, 777 Glades Road, Boca Raton campus. The conference runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.
The conference will bring together distinct, yet connected scholarly approaches on state communism and international and national practices of colonization related to the former Soviet world. Looking back a quarter-of-a-century later, the conference theme invites interdisciplinary and multi-epistemological perspectives that feature relevant questions of communist authoritarian practices, and colonial and post-colonial policies that impact identity politics and democratic processes in the global arena.
The first keynote speaker will be Cezar Ornatowski, Ph.D., of San Diego State University, presenting "Post-Colonialism as a Discursive and Political Issue: The Case of Poland." This lecture will take place on Thursday, March 12 at noon in the Live Oak Pavilion, adjacent to the Student Union. On Friday, March 13 at noon, Bogdan Stefanescu, Ph.D., of the University of Bucharest, Romania, will present "Belated Modernity: The Colonization of the Future听in Post-Communist Culture." This lecture will take place in the Senate Chambers of the Student Union. Both keynote addresses are free and open to the public.
