The contest, which was sponsored by 国产自拍鈥檚 Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters, invited these students to create original works responding to the prompt: 鈥淐learly express what you learned about yourself and modern society through the survivor鈥檚 story.鈥

鈥淲e are proud of every student across Florida who participated in this contest,鈥 said 国产自拍 President Adam Hasner. 鈥淭hey engaged seriously with a history that demands to be understood fully and honestly. Their willingness to confront what happens when truth is abandoned and hatred goes unchallenged is exactly the kind of thinking this moment requires as much as ever.鈥

High school submission winners were: Written Expression first place: Danielle Eliaz, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School; second place: Ava Gurspan, David Posnack Jewish Day School; Digital Media first place: Katie Zuniga, Charles W. Flanagan High School; second place: Paulency Merove, Suncoast High School; and Visual Arts first place (tied): Sofya Titova, Cypress Bay High School and Sophia Klein, David Posnack Jewish Day School; second place: Dayna Huynh, Suncoast Community High School.

The winners for middle school were: Written Expression first place: Sophia Zann, Saint Marks Episcopal School; second place: Lisa Bowers, Beachside Montessori Village; Digital Media first place: Ari Kliksberg, David Posnack Jewish Day School; second place: Cristian Espinoza, Pioneer Middle School; and Visual Arts second place: Ashton Somer Lees, Parkway Christian School.

Now in its first year at Florida Atlantic, the contest is an integral component of the听Craig and Barbara Weiner Holocaust Museum of South Florida, which will be housed in the Kurt and Marilyn Wallach Holocaust and Jewish Studies Building currently under construction at 国产自拍鈥檚 Boca Raton campus.

鈥淲e are pleased that the Holocaust Museum and the Holocaust Reflections Contest will be housed in the Wallach Building here at Florida Atlantic,鈥 said Craig Weiner. 鈥淭his meaningful initiative will have a permanent home where students鈥 voices, creativity and reflections can continue to be honored, fostering education, remembrance and a deeper understanding for generations to come.鈥

The Wallach building will unite Holocaust education, Jewish studies, and programs related to diplomacy and leadership. Planned features include a recital and lecture hall, traveling exhibition gallery, the George and Irina Schaeffer听鈥淒imensions in Testimony鈥澨齞igital display, the Marilyn and Jay Weinberg Grand Lobby, the Arthur and Emalie Gutterman Family Center for Holocaust and Human Rights Education, and state-of-the-art classrooms.
