Altarations: Built, Blended, Processed听presents works by 23 contemporary artists.听Most of the artists live听 and work throughout the United States while a few reside in other countries听including Israel, Denmark and Peru.听 While hardly unified in style and content, the artists鈥 works in听Altarations听blend photographic images and processes听 to produce works that celebrate, contradict and听undermine photographic traditions through altered images and references.听 The title of the exhibition is听derived from Mark C. Taylor鈥檚 鈥淎ltarity,鈥 a 1987 book of philosopher Taylor鈥檚 writing that brings听 together his interpretation and synthesis of several modern philosophers鈥 interpretations of difference听and otherness.听

Ellen Carey鈥檚 solo exhibitions include Ibu Gallery, Paris, France and Nina Freudenheim Fine Art, Buffalo, NY.
Her work is in many collections including听Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art,
New York听and Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, DC.

Jibade-Khalil Huffman听- artist in听Altarations
Los Angeles-based, Jibade-Khalil Huffman is a visual artist who is also a poet, currently with two books,听19 Names For Our Band听(Fence Books, 2008) and听James Brown is听Dead听and Other Poems听(Future Plan and Program, 2011). His work was recently featured in the 2014听Made in LA听at the Hammer, UCLA.
